Paging through Nico’s Tail for the first time was an exercise in discovery and enchantment. The narrative, characters, and presentation offer the adult reader a sense of the rich possibilities of story-telling. But to share it as I happily did with two young children is to experience those possibilities in the here and now. Their connection to the book’s unlikely protagonist was immediate. And while they fixed on the excitement of Nico’s madcap exploits, it was clear that by the end, the book had worked its magic at another level. Lessons in discernment and bonding are conveyed in a truly startling, fresh adventure. The pace is brisk, the illustrations engaging; and the connection to the idea of true friendship is compelling. Also, without the faintest fear of exaggeration it is safe to say the book’s creators have done for street rodents what Disney did for a household pest named Mickey.

Loved reading this to our granddaughters. Although they've never seen a rat, they had expressed some fear of mice in the past. So happy to be able to give them their new outlook on Nico and his family. So important for children to learn the invaluable lessons that nature teaches us all.

Charming tale, and so appropriate for our times. We need more than ever to reinforce the importance of decency, kindness and nature's gifts to us all.
And the story is long enough to keep little ones interest for a few bedtime readings - "we will find out more what happens tomorrow night". And then they want to hear it all again. Thanks for Nico's Tail.

With pride as a friend of the author, I would not offer this review if I felt otherwise. This book is truly an inspiration that would enlighten and affect the young and the adult. It is an uplifting, noble story and production, with a tone and message of compassion, unity, acceptance, family, and respect. This is a truly feel-good and embracing story with a message of hope and dignity for both children and grown-ups.

I bought this book and placed it on the coffee table to see my daughter's reaction. Immediately my daughter pointed to the squirrels on the cover and asked; Mommy, why are they running?" I told her we needed to read it and find out. She listened intently while I read the book and said "Mommy, I want to be in this story." This story kept her attention all the way to the end and she's only 3 year's old. As her mom I found myself wanting to know what was going to happen next too. What an adventurous and sweet story about friendship and our human relationship and perceptions of the creatures we share the world with! Going to purchase this story for the other children in our family now.

I absolutely loved this book. It is a heartwarming story of 2 friends that stayed friends against the odds. Nico and Josie are a true testament of what you should do when your friend needs help. It is a great lesson for any parent to teach their children. I hope there will be a sequel! Will Josie ever find her family in Central Park? Or will Nico and Josie ever meet again? I can’t wait to find out!!

I loved this book. It’s a great story to read to your kids. It’s teaching a great lesson on friendship, loyalty and how everyone pulls together when needed. It reminded me of being in NYC during 9/11. It didn’t matter your color, race or religion, people just pulled together to help. Now I am aware this is a tale about a rat and a squirrel but it’s just so much more than that. I would highly recommend it. It’s just a really lovely book and the characters are endearing. I also feel like it has potential for a sequel! Will Josie find her family in Central Park? Will Nico and Josie reunite? I hope there is a sequel so I can’t find out!
