Alice Rose George was born in Mississippi and educated at Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University and at the University of London. She attended the New York University Graduate Program for Creative Writing.
Ceiling of the World, a previous collection of poems, was published by Spuyten Duyvil in 1995.
She lives in New York where she works as an independent photography editor and curator. She has served as publisher of Granta and as director of Magnum Photos, USA. She has authored or co-authored five books on photography.
