F*ck Art (Let's Dance) Coloring Book

Product Description

What would you give to shoot the moon in the greatest city in the world?

In her memoir F*ck Art (Let’s Dance), author and artist Sally Eckhoff told the story of the downtown art and music scene in New York during the last decade when a starving artist could afford to eat (and sing and paint and dance) in Manhattan. In F*ck Art (Let's Dance): A Downtown Coloring Book, she recreates that scene as a punk art coloring book for adults.

Many people think of the East Village, retrospectively, as a place where people in tight black pants and biker jackets (weathered just so) romped from club to club, and there was a cool punk on every corner. But besides the scenarios the region became famous for, everyday life provided just as many memories. Whether your thing is local food, rats and roaches, hair gel, pointy-toed shoes, or the rarefied—and frequently uptown—dreams of artists, you can add your own impressions to these pages, and come out with your own authentic image of the East VIllage that (almost) was.

“I didn’t have famous friends,” Sally Eckhoff says. “But being one“But being one of a crowd has its advantages. You get to see a lot from the inside.”

About the author

Sally Eckhoff, who hails from a family of seven in a shore town on Long Island, grew up loving New York, horses, and art. Beginning in the late 1970s, she lived in the East Village, remaining there for seventeen years. Early on, she became a member of Painting Space 122 Association, and also an occasional performance artist at PS122, Club 57, Great Gildersleeves, CBGB, and Tier 3. Although her eclectic painting style draws from German Expressionism, Dutch landscape painting, and American cartoons, it belongs to no accepted category. In addition to painting, Sally Eckhoff’s artwork includes typographical drawings, collage, and experimental animation. Her work has been shown at home and abroad, most recently on Orchard Street in the Lower East Side. Sally Eckhoff lives and works in Columbia County, New York, and Brooklyn.
